The UNHCR & IRAB Refugee Survey

The UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is a global organization dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for refugees, forcibly displaced communities and stateless people.

The Irish Refugee Advisory Board (IRAB) was formed by UNHCR in 2022. A refugee led group, the Board’s aim is to ensure that the voices of refugees are heard in policy decisions that affect them. In doing so, it will discuss issues that affect their communities and propose solutions to them.

UNHCR and IRAB conducted a survey to better understand how to reach refugee communities all across Ireland. This will help ensure that they receive the kind of information they are interested in and improve the design of future consultations.

Concept Sketches

I wanted to bring a fresh and innovative perspective to the QR code design that is commonly seen around. One that wouldn’t be so typical and would catch a passerby’s eye.

Steering away from the conventional, I envisioned incorporating the QR code into a dynamic and relatable environment. Rather than have it presented straight on and upfront, I thought bringing it into an atmosphere which makes sense for it to be skewed in such a way would add some fun. Pedestrians will be drawn to explore the hidden charm of the design, while the overall aesthetics of the poster command attention and admiration.

As this poster would be presented around Dublin, I thought it would be worth throwing in some notable architecture!

Thanks to Aoife Harte for the direction.
